It’s official!

The Carpathia Blasmusikanten are an Untergruppe of Carpathia Club, Inc. as of January 2014!

Though we have only been together for less than a year, our history is deeper than one would expect. In 1967, members of Carpathia formed a successful brass band and played for various events in, as well as outside of, the Club until sometime in the early 1970’s. In April of 2013, George Schleis was approached by the Carpathia Club to see if it would be possible to form a Carpathia Brass Band again for the 100th Anniversary Celebration. George partnered with Matthias Eichmann as the musical director, and a total of five musicians came for the first practice on April 14th 2013. Among those five were, in fact, three members of the original Carpathia Blaskapelle: Wolfgang Bering, Joe Karner, and George Schleis. During the next four weeks, the word was spread around and the number of musicians increased; we performed at the 100th Anniversary Celebration with a total of 22 musicians!

Today, our Blaskapelle is made up of about 26 playing members whose ages range from 12 and up, and who all share the same passion for the traditional “Egerländer Blasmusik.” New players have joined: Nate Amann (Flügel Horn), Nick Sippl (Baritone) and Giovanni Caporuscio (Flügel Horn). We are always looking for additional musicians, particularly baritone and clarinet! Rehearsals have been taking place on Friday evenings from 7:30 to 10:00 pm, or Sunday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:00 pm, at the Carpathia Club. Come give us a try! Young or old, all are welcome!
